Dispute hits bus and train services from Sligo

There was anger, confusion and disappointment at Sligo bus and train stations this morning as both buses and trains are now cancelled.

The chaos has been caused by an all-out strike by Bus Eireann drivers.

It was a sunny morning at Sligo bus station this morning but that brightness was not reflected in the mood of the many bus-drivers on the picket lines.

They are angry that they have been forced to take this action of an all-out strike this morning and told me that they are aware of how this is inconveniencing their many loyal customers.

They feel whatever money is being lost at Bus Eireann – they state they have not seen it.

They state they are not looking for anything except to hold onto what they have.

One of those on the picket line in Sligo this morning is Damien Healy, whose on the national executive of the NBRU for the NW.

Meanwhile, the station manager at Sligo Train Station confirmed this morning that all of the train services out of Sean MacDiarmada Station in Sligo have been cancelled so far.

People taking the 11 o’clock and the 1 o’clock are also advised to make alternative arrangements.

Trains coming from Dublin to Sligo have only been going as far as Longford.

This man told me that he was due to take the train to Dublin and he will now have to look at a private bus operator as an alternative:
