Minister refutes Bree’s stance on resources for homelessness

The government minister with responsibility for housing has strongly disputed a Sligo councillor’s claim that not enough is being done to tackle homelessness.

Independent Councillor Declan Bree told Housing and Urban Renewal Minister Damien English in Sligo yesterday that they have been hearing the government talking about its plan to tackle homelesness.

But Cllr Bree, the county’s longest-servimng councillor, says if the resoures are not delivered, the council cannot provide necessary housing.

He says he is in local government for decades and he has never before seen the level of depair of people on the housing list.

But Minister English disagrees, telling Ocean FM News what the government is planning.
