Councillors tell housing minister of need for more staff

Sligo councillors have been telling a government minister this morning that a shortage of local staff is ‘a huge issue’ when it comes to providing housing in the county.

Independent Councillor Michael Clarke told the Junior Minister for Housing and Urban Renewal at a meeting in Sligo that that the council is building only one rural house this year when about 10 are needed.

However, the minister Damien English urged the council to make its case for more staff when planning new schemes.

He said he recognised that with the loss of staff that Sligo County Council had suffered, it was difficult to proved the services.

But he promised his department would work with the council on the issue.

Speaking to Ocean FM Minister English paid tribute to the work done by staff.
