A Sligo councillor is calling for Rathlee National School in West Sligo to be redesignated as part of the DEIS programme.

Independent councillor Michael Clarke raised the motion at this morning’s meeting of the Tubbercurry/Ballymote Municipal District.

He has asked the council to write to the Education Minsiter and the Department seeking to have Rathlee’s case revisited.

The department last week said it is to review the funding criteria for DEIS schools following recent criticism.

Councillor Clarke says nothing has changed in the area since the last round of funding and people are going to lose their jobs as a result of the school losing it’s designation.
