Rovers move up to tenth after claiming first win

Sligo Rovers

(Foran OG 27, Kenny 29, Sadlier 54)

Bray Wanderers

(McCabe 3, 39)

Sligo Rovers moved off the foot of the table thanks to a piece of magic from Kieran Sadlier at the Showgrounds on Saturday night.

Sadlier was involved in both goals as Rovers pulled ahead following Gary McCabe’s third minute opener.

And after McCabe levelled it with his second before the break, Sadlier produced a stunning goal from a free-kick early in the second half to give the Bit O’ Red their first win.

Bray opened the scoring as Mark Salmon’s cross was deflected into the path of McCabe, who slid it home.

But the game swung in a crazy three minutes that saw the hosts go ahead.

Sadlier firstly smashed a low shot off the post, before he saw a low cross turned into his own net by Derek Foran.

Two minutes later, they had another with Sadlier’s cross rebounding for Kenny to lash into the net for his first goal for the club.

Bray pulled level five minutes before the break. McCabe was scythed down at the edge of the box by a Mick Leahy tackle that earned the defender a booking.

The former Shamrock Rovers man dusted himself off before brilliantly firing the ball into the top corner.

As good as that free-kick was, it was outdone by Sadlier’s beauty nine minutes into the second half.

The winger expertly curled an effort from 30 yards just inside the near post for his third goal in three games, and his second free-kick in two home matches.

Bray always looked threatening and McCabe could have had his hat-trick but blazed over from inside the area, and Anto Flood was denied by Shaun Patton’s save when he looked to capitalise on a defensive error.

Salmon and Dylan Connolly were booked as Bray’s frustrations grew, and they slumped to successive away defeats.
