Sligo councillor not convinced about 2040 Framework plan

A Sligo councillor is looking at the new Draft National Framework Planning with a degree of trepidation.

Sinn Fein’s Chris MacManus says Sligo’s designation as a gateway city in 2002 and subsequent failure to secure any funding leave him unimpressed

The then National Spatial Strategy designated Sligo a Gateway to the North West with the intention of promoting regional development.

However, due to the economic crash nothing was ever done to build on the classification but the Council are hopeful that the new Ireland 2040 national framework will see Sligo retain its top level recognition.

After officials presented councillors with their draft submission for Sligo,  Councillor MacManus says he is hopeful that the finance will come on stream this time
