Working with private operators is the best option for Bus Eireann



A private bus operator in Sligo says the rural network can be strengthened by Bus Eireann and smaller companies around the country working together.

Furey’s coaches in Sligo has launched a new service this week from Kinlough to Ballyshannon via Bundoran with a demand-led route serving the north Sligo area as well.

The route is run by Local Link and it will provide 7 return journeys a day – 6 days a week.

It comes at a time when Bus Eireann is looking at cutting some of its routes due to major financial losses.

But Aidan Furey of Furey’s coaches says the times of these buses have been scheduled to link up with the Bus Eireann Sligo/Galway and Enniskillen/Dublin expressway services.

He told Ocean FM News that by working together he thinks the rural bus network can be developed and expanded:
