18,000 North West homes to get superfast broadband by mid-2018



Almost 18,000 homes in the North West are to get 1 Gigabite per second super fast fibre broadband over the next 12 months.

The roll-out into more than 14,000 homes in Donegal is the biggest in the State announced by communications company Eir in which 100,000 homes nationally will get connections faster than many available in cities like Dublin and Cork.

Almost 1,000 of those will be in the Donegal Town area, 480 in Ardara, 580 in Killybegs, 300 in Carrick and 440 in Rossnowlagh.

2,500 homes in Sligo will be connected as part of the rollout by mid-2018. 260 of those in Strandhill, 1500 in Sligo Town and 1200 in Castlegarren.

Leitrim will see 710 homes in Carrick on Shannon and Drumshambo connected to high speed internet.
