Independent Alliance member says new bill aims to put human face on repossessions

A local member of the Independent Alliance says a new bill introduced by the group aims to put a human face on Ireland’s Repossession Crisis.

Independent TD Kevin ‘Boxer’ Moran introduced the ‘Keeping People In Their Homes Bill 2017’ to the Dail in recent days.

It aims to provide protection to home owners facing repossession and provide clarity to Irish courts on examining the proportionality of granting executing repossession orders on people’s homes.

Education, childcare, and the social needs of families would also be taken into account by judges in repossession cases.

Independent Alliance member and Mayor of Sligo Marie Casserly believes the bill is a long time overdue.
