Sligo Heritage Office launches new project to train people to record graveyard histories

A new project to train people how to record the wealth of history and information in their local graveyards is to be launched by the heritage office of Sligo County Council.

Four graveyards will be selected for surveying and training purposes; the selections will depend on the level of interest by local people.

Depending on interest and resources, it is hoped to expand this in the future.

A public information session about the project will take place this coming Monday evening at 7:30pm in The Glasshouse Hotel in Sligo.

Siobhan Ryan, heritage officer with Sligo County Council, says the project combines the recording of ancient history with the most modern technology . . .and that includes even something as simple as the mobile phone.
