Aodh Ruadh GAA Club Notes

NFL Programme

Any business interested in taking an advert in the match programme for the Donegal v Monaghan NFL programme should contact Michael Daly, David McLoone, Conal Gallagher or Tom Daly. All club committee members are asked to assist with sourcing advertisements.

Call for Stewards

A call has been put out by CLG Dún na nGall for new match stewards for county and inter-county matches. Each club has been asked to put forward a number of people interested in becoming stewards. With the upcoming NFL fixture in Father Tierney Park, we are also looking to increase our own number of qualified stewards. There is a training course being held on the evening of Friday March 10th and morning of Saturday March 11th, at Aras Aoidh Ruaidh, Ballyshannon, each lasting two and a half hours. All of the Aodh Ruadh stewards who steward at Father Tierney Park are asked to register. Those who complete the training will be certified for a three year period. Renewal then requires just a short refresher course. Anybody interested should contact either Lisa McTernan or David McLoone.

Training times

The schedule for training and coaching until the end of March was agreed at last week’s meeting between Park and Development Committee Officers and team managers. Due to the large numbers attending underage grades it is essential sessions start and finish on time so that the subsequent session can proceed on schedule. The roster will be re-visited at the end of March when the time changes.

Best of luck to Coláiste Cholmcille in their Markey Cup Final. The match will take place in Mac Cumhaill Park, Ballybofey this Friday 3rd March at 12.30pm.

There was a good turn out from players, parents, guardians and supporters for the launch of our new under 12 jerseys in Aras Aoidh Ruaidh. We were delighted to welcome jersey sponsor Michael Cleary of Michael Cleary Cars, Belleek Road, Ballyshannon to the event. We admired the new kit before discussing plans for our first ever campaign in both Southern Board divisions one and two, an enterprise which will see us fielding three teams and giving an unprecedented number of Ballyshannon players the chance to play competitive football. The following afternoon saw the lads play their second challenge of the season in Páirc Aoidh Ruaidh, facing off against a Four Masters side also competing in both divisions. The game was a good quality challenge, giving the players an idea of the sort of standard to expect in the upcoming league campaign. We havepictures of the jersey launch up on aodhruadh.org. The under 12s will be training this Friday at 5pm in Páirc Aoidh Ruaidh.

Oifigeach na Gaeilge

Beginners Irish Lessons continue in Gaelscoil Éirne on Mondays from 7pm to 8pm. Bíonn Ciorcal Comhrá gach Luan ag a h-ocht a chlog san áit céanna.

Scór Sinsear

Well done to our senior Scór quiz team of Sylvester Maguire, Eamonn Martin Maguire, Paddy Kelly and John Hughes who claimed the Scór Sinsear Tráth na gCeist county title last Saturday in Glenswilly. They were the last category of the night in the great facilities at Glenswilly and with two rounds played Fanad Gaels held a two point lead, leaving Aodh Ruadh needing to pull out all the stops and hope for a few slips by the perennial Donegal champions. They rose to the challenge and delivered a ten out of ten round, while Fanad dropped two points, sending the final into tiebreaker territory. Another round of ten questions couldn’t separate the sides, and a sudden death tie breaker left them deadlocked too. It took a moment of inspiration from Eamon Martin Maguire on the third tie breaker to decide the night when he correctly identified James Reilly as the Fine Gael deputy leader. That sealed victory and the probably unique distinction of a Fine Gael politician’s name being warmly saluted in the Maguire household. Aodh Ruadh now progress to represent Donegal at the All-Ireland finals.  Many thanks to Glenswilly for their hospitality on the night.

Bingo

The €800 big bingo jackpot was won by Donna Timoney of Belleek, well done to Donna. The stand up round was won by Mary Cleary of Ballyshannon who collected the prize pot of €190. There was no winner of the winter snowball so it rolls up to €625 on 49 numbers or less. Bingo this Friday will be held at Coláiste Cholmcille as the musical will be on at the Abbey Centre. Books priced at just €10. See you Friday night at 9pm.
