Garda College lay down the law in Ryan Cup final as IT Sligo lose out



IT Sligo’s senior hurlers lost out to a very strong Garda College team in Saturday afternoon’s Ryan Cup final at Pearse Stadium in Salthill.

Declan Loughnane’s side had come through an exhausting semi-final against Queen’s University Belfast yesterday, winning out by 2-17 to 0-18 after extra-time, with both goals coming in the second period of extra-time.

And Garda College, who had beaten Cork ETB by 5-18 to 1-9 in their semi-final on Friday, were too strong in the final, led by Tipperary All-Ireland-winner Pauric Maher.

It finished 5-23 to 1-8 in favour of Garda, though it wasn’t all disappointment for Sligo hurlers, as Sligo’s Gavin Feely was part of the Garda panel.

Meanwhile, the Fitzgibbon Cup final was won by Limerick’s Mary Immaculate College fro the second year in a row.

They defeated IT Carlow by 3-24 to 1-19 in the final, having beaten Davy Fitzgerald’s Limerick IT side in the semi-finals.
