Councillor says outdoor are staff needed all year

The Mayor of Sligo has questioned why outdoor staff in the county cannot be given permanent contracts.

Independent councillor Marie Casserly says the staff are needed all year round and not just when new funding comes on stream.

She raised the issue with the director of services with responsibility for Infrastructure Tom Kilfeather who confirmed that outdoor staff are usually hired on a part-time per-project basis.

Councillor Casserly says regardless of any funding it’s the staff who are more important as the council needs them to carry out works.
