MEP says decision on Sligo RVL could affect Irish reputation



The Department of Agriculture says no decision will be made on the future of the Regional Veterinary Lab in Sligo until staff have been consulted.

The Department has issued a new statement this week following a query from the Mayor of Sligo Marie Casserly on the issue.

There’s growing concern over the future of the RVL in Doonally after a report commissioned by the Department last year recommended Sligo be one of three possible closures.

The department says the aim of the review is to develop ‘a long-term’ plan for the 6 labs which are currently based in Sligo, Kilkenny and Limerick, Cork, Athlone and the headquarters in Kildare.

However, in its statement the Department says no decision and staff in each facility are currently being consulted.
