North West MEP critical of government attempts to ‘fix’ whistleblower controversy



North West MEP Luke ‘Ming’ Flanagan says looking to the government to ‘fix’ the current Garda Whistleblower controversy is almost a farce.

The Independent MEP has been deeply critical of the culture within the Gardai in the past despite it emerging in 2013 that he himself had penalty points wiped from his licence.

The then-serving TD said that it was suggested to him by the sergeant in question at the time that because he was travelling to the Dail he may be exempt and he never got the points.

However, Mr. Flanagan remains critical of the way in which garda whistleblowers have been treated.

But he says now to see FG, FF and Labour politicians trying to be seen as solving a problem they are part of is never going to work:
