There’s further evidence of soaring rents around the country this morning.
The latest quarterly report from Daft.ie shows rents rose nationwide by an average of 13.5 per cent in the year to December.
Rents in Donegal rose by most in this region at 11.5% followed by a 9.2% rise in rents in Sligo and a 7.4% rise in Leitrim.
The average advertised rent in Donegal is now €576, up 19% from its lowest point; it’s €624 in Sligo, up 20% from its lowest point and in Leitrim it’s €502, up 22% from its lowest point.
Communications Manager Martin Clancy says they weren’t surprised at the sharp increase, but the question now is what happens when rent controls kick in:
