27 more schools in region to benefit under DEIS scheme

Twenty seven schools in Donegal, Sligo and Leitrim are to benefit from their new DEIS status.

The Minister for Education Richard Bruton set out new targets yesterday to improve literacy and numeracy, school completion rates and the progression to further and higher education.

Over 100 primary and post-primary schools are expected to get additional resources and supports.

The majority of the additional schools are in fact in county Donegal where 21 primary and post primaries have been added to the list.

DEIS stands for Delivering Equality of Opportunity in Schools aiming to reduce the impact of disadvantage on pupils by allocating more resources.

In addition to the 21 schools in Donegal, a further two in Sligo and two in Leitrim have been added to the list.
