2017 Green Cert courses under threat due to lack of staff



It’s emerged over 4000 young farmers waiting to take part in Green Cert courses may not be able to do so this year.

It follows confirmation to Ocean FM News that Teagasc is unable to run the courses as planned in Ballymote, Mohill and Manorhamilton in 2017 due to a lack of staffing.

A spokesperson for Teagasc says the situation is up in the air at present but at present they won’t be able to run the course which young farmers need in order to qualify for various grant schemes.

Fianna Fail TD in Ballymote Eamon Scanlon has raised the issue in the Dail with the Tanaiste Frances Fitzgerald and he’s called on the Agriculture Minister to clarify the situation:
