Sligo has highest rate of vacant commercial property in the country

Sligo has the highest rate of vacant commercial property in the country.

18% of commercial property in the county is empty followed by Leitrim with 16.4% and Donegal and Mayo each with 15.6%.

That’s according to the latest figures in a report from DKM Economic Consultants, which was commissioned by GeoView.

Overall, commercial vacancy rates in Ireland have increased from 12.6% in the last quarter of 2015 to 13.5% for the same quarter in 2016.

Counties along the west coast are faring worst, with Connacht having the highest vacancy rate of any province.

Annette Hughes, director of DKM Economic Consultants says the report shows the areas most in need of support, given the high vacancy rates recorded.

President of Sligo Chamber of Commerce Des Faul says it’s a problem that’s the result of a changing retail scene.
