Calls for clarification on whether chemo patients will be treated in Letterkenny from March



There are calls for clarification on whether patients who are being referred from Donegal to Galway for chemotherapy treatment will have to continue their treatment there from March.

Over 50 patients have been referred to Galway over the past month due to a staffing shortage in Letterkenny.

The Saolta Hospital group says it’s continuing efforts to recruit a second consultant oncologist on a full-time basis.

However, until the 6th of March there is no-one to fill this post and as a result new chemotherapy patients are being sent to Galway.

Betty Holmes of the Action for Cancer Care campaign is calling for clarification from the General Manager of LUH Sean Murphy on whether these patients will revert to having treatment in Donegal from that date:
