Five gold medals and three new records for Sligo’s Mona McSharry

It was another incredible weekend for Sligo’s Mona McSharry.

The 16-year-old swimmer from Grange completed a breaststroke triple on Sunday at the Dave McCullagh/Swim Ulster International in Bangor, when she won gold in the 50m event in a time of 31.56 seconds.

The Marlins Swimming Club member also took gold on Sunday in the 200m Individual Medley in a time of two minutes 19.31 seconds.

McSharry claimed five gold medals in total across the weekend in Down having also won the 100m and 200m breaststroke events, as well as the 100m freestyle gold.

The Colaiste Cholmcille student also managed to hit the qualifying times for this year’s European Junior Championships in Israel, and the World Junior Championships in the US.

McSharry also set new Irish junior records in the 50m butterfly, 100m breaststroke and 200m breaststroke events.
