Minister under pressure to scrap mackerel quotas review



The Minister for Agriculture is under pressure to scrap a new review process of mackerel quotas.

The Killybegs Fishermen’s Organisation has already hit out at Minister Michael Creed for setting up this process saying he should concentration on the impact of Brexit on the industry instead.

Even his own party colleague Donegal Junior Minister Joe McHugh this week sided with local fishermen against the government review.

The KFO says the review into the distribution of additional mackerel is pitting different producer organisations against each other and it penalises the Refrigerated Seawater (RSW) sector.

Fianna Fail TD Pat the Cope Gallagher raised the issue in the Dail this week saying that many of these RSW boats are in Killybegs.
