Sligo TD fears the UK is using Ireland as a ‘pawn’ on Brexit



A Sligo Leitrim TD says he fears Ireland is being used as a ‘pawn’ by the UK to ensure a better deal after Brexit.

It emerged at a Brexit seminar in Leitrim yesterday that tariffs as high as 42% could be imposed on imports and exports to the UK from Ireland.

Fianna Fail TD from Ballymote Eamon Scanlon says such a move would cripple irish trade especially our beef exports.

However, following Theresa May’s visit to Dublin yesterday, Deputy Scanlon says he is still in no way reassured that Ireland’s interests will be taken into consideration.

He says he fears Ireland is being used to ensure a better deal with the EU:
