McManus names being Mayor of his adopted city ‘greatest honour’

A Sligo Sinn Fein councillor says that while he is retiring from elective politics, he will still remain active within his party.

Former Mayor of Sligo Sean MacManus is stepping down after 45 years involvement in politics.

He was among the Sinn Fein members who played a key role in the Northern Ireland peace negotiations.

As well as his continuing involvement in Sinn Fein, he says he hopes to travel as well as doing some fishing.

Speaking to Ocean FM this morning, Cllr MacManus lists being mayor of Sligo as one of the highlights of his distinguished career.
