Blacklion residents make case to retain post office

A group of people from the Blacklion area of Cavan has met with an official of An Post to make the case for the retention of the post office in the border town.

The current post mistress will complete her contract in mid-February and local people around Blacklion want An Post to offer the service for tender.

Cavan Fianna Fail Councillor John Paul Feeley says someone locally should be given the opportunity to run the post office and, perhaps, make it more sustainable in the future.

He was speaking after a delegation from Killinagh Community Council met with a regional manager from An Post.

Cllr Feely says it’s vital the local community is given the opportunity to operate the service, which then must be supported if it is to survive.
