Delay to new Mental Health Unit at SUH

A new Mental Health Unit at Sligo University Hospital will not be ready for use for at least another two years.

The HSE had planned to open the new 25 bed facility in late 2018 but today confirmed it’s not expected to be completed until 2019 or 2020.

In a statement to Ocean FM the HSE said that planning permission has been granted for the new unit at the hospital and submissions are being shortlisted following a tender process.

It follows a report last year which showed that the current facility on the Clarion road in Ballytivnan does not meet modern and environmental standards.

It’s estimated the new unit will cost at least 11 million euro in construction.
