TD Martin Kenny hits out at government’s new rural reinvigoration plan



The government is refuting claims that it is not doing enough to protect rural services after coming under fire this week in the Dail over ongoing threats to post offices in the North West.

Sligo/Leitrim TD Martin Kenny hit out at the government’s new rural reinvigoration plan launched this week as postal services in Cavan, Sligo, Leitrim and Donegal all remain under threat of closure.

The services in Blacklion and Ballygawley are still waiting for a decision from An Post and it’s emerged that Drumkeen in Donegal and Aughavas in county Leitrim could also be at risk.

Deputy Kenny says it’s ironic to introduce a new rural rejuvenation plan while at the same time rural post offices, buses and many other services are constantly under threat.

However, government Minister Richard Bruton insists a lot of work is being done to support rural services:
