Politicians condemned for not banning Hare coursing in 2016

Those against hare coursing in the North West are making their way to Dublin this afternoon for a protest outside the Dail.

It comes before the hare coursing national finals in Clonmel this weekend.

There is a strong following for hare coursing in parts of Sligo, Leitrim and Donegal, and particularly in the South Sligo area where there is a tradition of the sport and of greyhound racing.

However, Aideen Yourell, of the Irish Council Against Blood Sports, has condemned politicians for not taking the opportunity last year to ban hare coursing which, she claims, is cruel.
