The first annual Sligo Walking Festival takes place this weekend, beginning with a moonlight hike this evening.
The festival is being organised by Sligo based North West Adventure Tours and will go on until Sunday evening.
There are 7 walks taking place over the three days, beginning with tonight’s moonlit hike and they will incorporate all Sligo has to offer.
The Royal Peaks, Knocknarea and the Sligo Way will offer challenges for both beginner and experienced hikers.

Werner Wilders is one of the owners of the festival organisers and he says the interest was enough that they could have put on even more walks.
