Business turnover taken into account in some cases for property valuations

A Leitrim councillor says ratepayers who are concerned about their property valuations and the rates they may have to pay should take advantage of walk-in workshops by Leitrim County Council.

Some ratepayers in Leitrim have been shocked and confused on receiving notice of their property valuations, which have been set by the National Valuations Office.

However, it appears ratepayers may have thought the figure for their property valuation was the figure for rates they will have to pay.

Leitrim County Council Cathaoirleach, Fianna Fail Councillor Mary Bohan, says ratepayers have 40 days to appeal their valuations.

And Fine Gael Councillor John McCartin tells Ocean FM that for the first time, ratepayers turnover has been taken into consideration in some cases.

But he says only businesses which shared their turnover with the Valuations Office appear to be getting the benefit of this.
