Former Rovers winger Sander Puri signs for Waterford

Waterford have announced the signing of Estonian international Sander Puri.
The 28-year-old joins The Blues from Nomme Kalju in his native Estonia.

In 2015, he enjoyed a successful time with Sligo Rovers, fast becoming a fan favourite, making 27 league appearances and scoring four goals in the process.

The winger began his career with home town club SK 10 in Tartu before breaking through at Levadia Tallinn. Spells followed in Greece, Finland, Hungary, Poland, Scotland and England.

The 69-time capped Estonian spent 2016 with Karvina in the Czech Repbublic, helping his side to a league title and promotion back to the Czech top flight before a summer return to the Estonian League with Nomme Kalju.
Welcoming Puri to the club, First Team Coach Alan Reynolds commented: “Sander made a big impact on the League of Ireland in his previous stint here with Sligo Rovers and we’re confident he can replicate that in the upcoming season. He has proven quality both domestically and on the International scene and with the wealth of experience that he’ll bring to our squad, it’s a huge boost for Waterford FC heading into the new campaign.”
Puri is pleased to be back in Ireland and looking forward to the season ahead: “Coming abroad, the first few weeks or even months are usually difficult settling in but it was great in Ireland previously, that’s why I decided to return. I settled here well in 2015, enjoyed the country and standard of football with Sligo, now hopefully I can do the same here in Waterford.”
Puri, who linked up his with new team-mates for the first time on Thursday, gave his first impressions of Waterford FC: “It’s a young team but a talented one, hopefully we can push on and compete for the title and promotion. It’s my first time working with Pat and Alan but they are very good and very professional, the sessions have been great and I can’t wait to get on the pitch now.”
Puri becomes the 15th member of the Blues squad ahead of the 2017 season.
