McConalogue gets Dail support for Bill on tillage emergency fund

There was cross party support for a motion by Donegal TD Charlie McConalogue today calling for an emergency fund for tillage farmers to be set up.

It follows the particularly wet summer last year.

Farmers in a number of counties including Donegal and Roscommon were among the worst affected.

They took to the streets yesterday and protested outside the Dail calling for the Minister for Agriculture Michael Creed to set up a fund.

Deputy McConalogue’s bill on the issue was supported today.

He says the fund will cost around €4m but that with the underspend of more that €80 million in agriculture last year, the money is there to fund it:
