Proposals to encourage house buyers return to rural Ireland welcomed



Irish Rural Link says it welcomes proposals to encourage house-buyers to return to rural towns and villages.

Minister for Regional and Rural Affairs Heather Humphreys is to outline to Cabinet today a plan for grants to be offered to restore properties in small towns and villages.

It’s part of the government’s plan to revive rural Ireland after last year’s election revealed that many towns and villages outside the main cities around the country have not benefited form the so-called ‘economic recovery’.

Seamus Boland is the CEO of Irish Rural Link – a group advocating for the development of rural communities.

He says they welcome the plan but warns it needs to work in conjunction with more long-term regional development strategies:
