North West MEP in the running for European VP



The Fine Gael MEP Mairead McGuinness is running again this week for the position of vice-president of the European Parliament.

Today MEPs will vote on a new president to replace Martin Schulz who’s stepping down after five years.

And tomorrow MEPs will vote on the vice-presidents in a secret ballot.

Last month, Mairead McGuinness lost out in her bid to win the backing of the European People’s Party to run for the presidential position on their behalf.

Now the EPP candidate, Antonio Tajani is the favourite to win today’s presidential vote. However, Mairead McGuinness says winning and losing is part and parcel of politics:
