McLoughlin to raise issue of cardiac cath lab in Sligo with Minister today

The ongoing issue of providing a fixed cardio cath lab service at Sligo University Hospital is to be raised with Health Minister Simon Harris today.

Fine Gael TD Tony McLoughlin says he will be meeting with the Minister and will be seeking a committment from him to ensure the service is provided.

At present, a mobile service is provided but there have, for some time now, been repeated calls, for a fixed service to be provded instead.

Deputy McLoughlin’s meeting with Minister Harris comes just days after it was announced that additional cath lab services are to be provied at Waterford University Hospital.

He says he is now frustrated at the delays that an adequate service is not being provided in Sligo, despite a fixed cardio cath lab service not being available anywhere in the North West at present.

Deputy McLoughlin told Ocean FM that when he meets Minister Harris today, he will be telling him that both the people of the area and Sligo University Hospital cardiologist Dr Donal Murray say a fixed cath lab is needed in Sligo.
