Community group still await decision on post office

The community group attempting to save the post office services in a Sligo village say they are becoming frustrated with the delay in a decision by An Post.

A period of public consultation on the future of the Ballygawley post office service ended at the beginning of December and a decision was due before Christmas.

The contract there was deemed vacant following the death of the postmaster while an interim postmistress has been running the service in the interim.

The service in Blacklion, Co. Cavan and Drumkeen, Co. Donegal are also under threat with no decisions made yet by An Post as to their future.

The postmistress in Blacklion is due to retire from the position at the beginning of February while it emerged earlier this week that the post office in Drumkeen closed suddenly at the beginning of January.

Thomas Walsh is a member of the Save Ballygawley Post Office committee and he says there is no reason for An Post to have kept them waiting this long
