SIPO refers four North West Dáil election candidates onto Gardai

Four 2016 election candidates from the Sligo Leitrim and Donegal constituencies have been referred to the Gardai by the Standards in Public Office Commission.

The Standards Commission (SIPO) has referred 66 files to the Gardaí in relation to possible contraventions of the Act at the Dáil election.

Reasons include failures to return donation statements, certificates of monetary donations, statutory declarations, statements from a financial institution, or election expenses statements.

In Sligo Leitrim, Independent candidate Bernard Sweeney has been referred on for failing to provide any documentation at all as required under the act.

Two Independent Donegal candidates Ian McGarvey and Michael Mooney and Sligo Leitrim Green Party candidate Leslie O’Hora have also been referred onto the Gardai for failing to provide the required documentation listed or have not provided clarification or further details as requested by SIPO.
