More new vehicles are being licensed in the North West.

Figures just released by the Central Statistics Office show there were 5,303 vehicles licensed for the first time last year in Sligo, Leitrim and Donegal.

That compared to 4,524 in 2015.

Last year, most of the new vehicles — 3,284 — were licensed in County Donegal. That compares to 2,819 in 2015.

In Sligo, 1,365 new vehicles were licensed last year. 1,129 were licensed in County Sligo in 2015.

654 new cars were licensed in County Leitrim last year, an increase of 78 on the previous year.

More than 50,000 new vehicles were licensed in Dublin.

A vehicle is licensed when a tax disc is issued for the first time.
