Leitrim people express mixed views on forestry in the county



There are mixed views among Leitrim people when it comes to the controversial issue of forestry in the county.

A randon sample by Ocean FM News found some were totally against the idea while others felt poor land not suitable for farming should be planted.

There is also concern that much of the debate centres around the commercial aspect of forestry with not enough attention being given to issues concerning the environment and the natural habitat.

At a meeting of Leitrim County Council this week, there were claims vulture funds and investment companies were buying up land in Leitrim for forestry, with local farmers not able nor given a chance to buy.
