Donegal TD says new water committee is a ‘waste of time’



A Donegal TD says the committee set up to look at the future funding of water in Ireland is a ‘waste of time’.

Independent TD Thomas Pringle is one of the members of the committee set up to examine an expert report on how to fund domestic water charges in the future.

It met for the second time yesterday hearing evidence from Ervia, the parent group of Irish Water and the Commission on Energy Regulation.

Deputy Pringle, a well-known anti-water charge campaigner says – while the committee will generate some interesting information – it is essentially a waste of time and money.

But he hopes it will result in the eventual abolition of water charges for once and for all:

Following queries by Deputy Pringle, Ervia confirmed that the billing process – which is ongoing at Irish Water despite the suspension of the charges – is costing €25m.
