Consultant: A long-term plan is key to solving the ongoing overcrowding crisis



A North West Consultant says a long-term vision is the only way to solve the crisis in our hospitals.

Speaking on Ocean FM today, Dr. Fergal Hickey, consultant in emergency medicine at Sligo University hospital says there were 14 patients on trolleys there last night.

He says the nurses decision to give health officials a week to avert strike action reflects the ongoing pressure they are under.

He says, however, one positive thing he has heard the Minister for Health Simon Harris mention is a 10 year plan.

He says a long-term vision is the only way to avoid this crisis every year:
