A new tourist office will be launched at Ireland West Airport Knock this Spring.

It comes as the airport has celebrated its busiest year to date in 2016 with passenger numbers exceeding 730,000 passengers for the first time.

It’s a 7% increase on 2015 figures and the biggest increase in visitors has come from the UK.

Sligo County Council is the most recent Local Authority to come on board to support the airport through a funding initiative.

Donal Healy, Head of Marketing at the airport says it’s a great vote of confidence in the airport and is going towards the development of the airport.

He says 2017 will see a new tourist office open at the airport to promote the whole of the North West and speaking to Ocean FM earlier he also outlined the plans for a historic charter flight to New York in May:
