Letterkenny Athletics Club Notes

Annmarie McGlynn took part in the ‘Lough 5’ race on Saturday in the village of Loughmacrory, near Omagh, Co Tyrone. Annmarie had an excellent run in the 5 mile race. She was 2nd in the women’s race, and 7th overall, in a time of 28.21. The 1st woman was City of Derry’s Catherine Whoriskey, whose time was 28.07.
On Thursday, Deirdre Diver was 2nd woman in the Rosses 8K race. LAC’s Paul Rua McBride also had a good run.
Sean McFadden organised a run in the beautiful surroundings of Coravaddy forest on Saturday. The proceeds, of €1104, all went to the Paul Holian Fund. Sean was greatly assisted in his organisational efforts by his own family and by fellow LAC man, Ciaran O’Donnell and some of his family. First across the line was in-form Karl Doogan, who was followed by Paddy Ryan and Ben Carr. Marie Boyle and Fionnuala Larkin were the first women.
Jane Gormley had a fine run in the last Letterkenny parkrun of the year and finished in 22.21. Peter McLean clocked 27.07 in his 36th parkrun. Young Ronan Burke was the first finisher in the 11-14 age group in 29.59.
Several LAC runners got 2017 off to an energetic start by running in the Raphoe 5K on January 1st. LAC runners were to the fore in the event which attracted well in excess of 200 runners. Pauric Breslin showed that he intends 2017 to be as successful as 2016 was. He won in style in a time of 16.23. He was followed home by club mate, Sean McFadden, whose time was 16.43. Paul McFadden finished in 18.04. Martin Gormley, taking part in his 4th race in 9 days, picked up 1st prize in the M50 category in 18.40. Martin’s daughter, Eimear, on holiday from her teaching job in Dublin, acheived a PB of 21.06.
Richard Raymond continued his good form and clocked 21.35. He was closely followed by Cathal Roarty in 21.41. Jimmy Gildea, who has served the club well since its inception many years ago, ran 33.45.
