Independent TD says there is no sign of mobile coverage improving in North West



Mobile phone coverage throughout rural areas of the North West is getting worse and it will be at least 2019 before there’s any improvement.

That’s according to Independent TD Michael Fitzmaurice who says there are many people in rural areas who cannot go about ther daily business because of poor coverage.

He says ComReg, which is the industry regulator, is considering making changes to future mobile phone licences that would oblige companies to include remote rural areas in their network, and not just cities and big towns.

Deputy Fitzmaurice has said that sounds great — but it would be 2019 at the earliest before this would be implemented.

And he says it’s a major issue for rural areas such as those in the North West:
