Passenger numbers on local bus network grew by 10% in 2016



More people in the North West are using Bus Eireann’s local services.

Passenger journeys on the Bus Eireann local bus network grew by almost 10% last year.

There were 404,000 trips made on these local routes in 2016.

That compares to almost 369,000 in 2015.

Bus Eireann employs 255 people in the North West and contributed €33m to the region’s economy last year.

Local Bus Eireann Manager Rory Leahy says it’s hoped to further improve both the services and fleeet this year:

Mr Leahy says the latest figures do not include Bus Eireann Expressway services which are reportedly under threat.

However, he says Expressway services and longer routes in the North West are also doing well:
