Drumshanbo in shock over tragic death of local woman

The community of Drumshanbo is in a state of shock today after a local woman, 74 year old Betty McManus, was killed last night in a collision with a car at Acres Lake just outside the town.

Betty was crossing the road from the swimming pool side when she was struck by the car at approximately a quarter past 7 last night. A highly regarded member of the community, Betty McManus was known for her hard work in bringing people together, most notably her major involvement with the Town Twinning project.

She was predeceased by her husband, well known builder & developer, Paddy McManus in November 2015.  Together they ran the famous Thatch Public House on Highstreet, Drumshanbo.

Investigations are ongoing and Gardai say anyone with information is to contact Carrick on Shannon Garda station on 071 96 50510.

Former FF Senator in Drumshanbo, Paschal Mooney, says she was well known and popular in the local area
