Riverstown parish native takes on prestigious role at Irish Pontifical College

A priest from County Sligo is to take over a prestigious role at the Pontifical Irish College in Rome next year.

Fr. John Coughlan will begin a stint as the Director of Formation at the college beginning next autumn.

Fr. John, who is originally from Ballygawley, was ordained in 2008 and is a former chaplain at IT Sligo and the current curate at St. Joseph’s parish in Boyle, Co. Roscommon.

Earlier this month the trustees of the college requested his release by the Bishop of Elphin Kevin Doran to take up the role which will see him share responsibility of helping young men from all over Ireland prepare themselves for the priesthood.

Speaking to Ocean FM News Fr. Coughlan says it will be a major change from day to day parish life but one he is relishing.
