Calls for Fianna Fail senator to resign Seanad seat

A Donegal Councillor is calling for Fianna Fail Senator Brian Ó Domhnaill to resign completely.

The Donegal Senator resigned the Fianna Fail party whip after he was found by the Standards in Public Office Commission to be in breach of ethics laws.

The findings published last week found that he had ‘knowingly’ breached ethics laws by claiming expenses from both Donegal County Council and Údarás na Gaeltachta for three trips in 2006.

Independent Councillor Michéal Cholm Mac Giolla Easpaig says he has also written to Donegal County Council and Udarás na Gaeltachta to ask them what measures are being taken to recoup the taxpayer.

In a statement to Ocean FM News yesterday evening, Donegal County Council confirmed it had been informed of the outcome of the SIPO investigation but said it would not be making any public comment at this time.
