€25 million sheep welfare scheme welcomed



Farming organisations are welcoming the launch of the new sheep welfare scheme.

Minister Michael Creed launched the €25million annual scheme which is paid out through the Rural Development programme today at Kenmare mart today.

The Irish Natura and Hill Farmers Association is one of the organisation that campaigned for such a scheme.

Sligo farmer Colm O’Donnell of the INHFA says there are some special references in the scheme for farmers who are part of a commonage.

He says it will be well into the New Year though before farmers are paid under this scheme:
