IT Sligo’s archaeology department will be in spotlight at book launch

The work of IT Sligo’s archaeology department will be in the spotlight this evening during the launch in County Clare of a new book dealing with the discovery of the 16th Century skeleton of a teenage boy in a cave.

The director of the cave excavation, near Ballyvaughan, in the Burren, was Dr Marion Dowd of IT Sligo.

The scientific investigation of the skeleton involved DNA laboratories in England and Germany.

Dr Dowd, the foremost expert in the archaeology of Irish caves, says the investigation also highlights the leading role IT Sligo is now playing in archaeological research.
